okay, i don't want to sound weird or pretentious or snobby or anything, but something has been bugging me for a while.
is there really something so shocking about girls digging things like star wars and video games and other "traditionally male" things?
because i've met lots of guys and they all are genuinely surprised when i mention the fact that empire strikes back is my favorite movie or that i am a hardcore video game geek.
is it really that weird? i mean, usually they're all surprised and say stuff like "that's awesome! you never find a girl who's into that stuff, or if you do, she's like some ugly fat chick."
am i being overly sensative, or does anyone else find that insulting? again, i don't want to sound snobby, but i'm an attractive 18-year old girl very much on the petite side. does that mean it's weird that i'm into the stuff that i am?
this might not have much of a point, but i'm curious to know if anyone else has been the victim of this kind of thing. i'm so confused.

If it makes you fell better anyone who is really big into star wars is usually considerd a geek. Although it is very unusual to find a femal who likes it. I have never been able to figure out why but for some reason most girls just don't like star wars and video games

In some ways yes it is "weird" and some ways no it's not. For starters, Star Wars has predominately male fans. This is just a fact. I've been to two of the Celebrations, a couple Comic Cons, and other Star Wars and Lucas Film sponcered events. The girls who are fans of SW and video games are starting to come out in droves! I know many gamer chicks and SW fan girls; their numbers are increasing as the girls realize it's okay to be "nerdy" or "geeky."

As far as the physique of the fangirl, I've seen the gambit. The petite Slave Leias to the obese girls... Just like the guys have everything from the cool stud to the fat geek.

There are stereotypes in geekdom as in the main stream world. The only difference is that a "petite, attractive girl" is much more rare than say a hot chick into NASCAR.

Don't take it personal, a good looking Star Wars girl just not common, like going to hollywood and running into Brad Pitt. It could happen, but is very unlikely...

You're not weird. You just beat a different drum that's all. Yes it is insulting to be classified a certain way. Who ever said only dumb fat chicks ... should take a course on how not to insult people. What a dumb thing to say. Most girls (not all) are into fashion, jobs, b/fs, etc, and don't pay attention to other things available. Be proud of yourself. You and millions of other women are breaking that same old boring mold.

I'm a girl. While talking to one of my officemates, a girl, I was expecting that she could relate with me when I started talking about Star Wars. I was surprised that she was not familiar with the story.

I told my husband about it, as if telling him this girl was strange.. He uttered, it's unusual for a girl to be into that stuff.. So, i found out, i'm the one who's unusual.. He said, i've probably been influenced by my four brothers, that's why I act that way..

Unusual maybe.. but not a negative thing.. I can usually relate with men, talking about Voltes V, LOTR, Resident Evil, X-men and DC superheroes... Find positive things about it..

hahahahaha this one's great! i'm also 18 and petite and i LOVE video games. it's not so weird that you're into it. in fact, feel great that you're not ugly and fat. don't stress about this. they find you
"unique". take advantage of it. i think this is a great quality for a girl, it makes it easier to communicate with guys. i think that's their problem. they find it so weird that there aren't many girls that they can connect with easily and who won't just simply bat their eyelashes for attention. you have a mind, a personality. use it.

Don't worry about it. You will find plenty of guys who aren't weirded out by any of it -- I know this from personal experience.

In fact, some guys love it! :) My bf got me the new pink Nintendo DS lite for Christmas. Nuff said.

Good luck!
