My aunt took my cats to the vets for me to get shots and neutered. She brought home a medicine for them called Metacam and the paperwork never says what it is for. Anyone know? I'm just curious, thanks:)

pain meds.
its strange that he would get that just for being neutered. normally male cats dont get any kind of pain medication because it is a really easy surgery. i would call and find out if that is their policy. also it is rare for a cat to get that normally it is for dogs and cats get tolfedine if they get anything... sounds odd i would call.

Call your vet and ask and DON'T give it to your cats. Neutering should not require any post-op "pain" medication for your cats.

It is an extremely dangerous drug for cats and is "off-label" for use with cats. Vets use it with dogs.

Please go to www.persiancats.org and click on "Medical Alerts" to read the evaluation by the Federal Drug Administration's study of what happened to cats when they were "tried" on this medication. Of 350 cats 100 died of liver failure!
