Lightweight behind-then-neck earphones are generally the most comfortable to wear, especially for someone who wears glasses, has a large hair-do, or wears big hats. Clip-on over-the-ear headphones are generally the same, except that the plastic clips can sometimes be painful to someone who wears glasses (including sunglasses, so keep that in mind for road-trips) or has oddly-shaped ear cartilidge. Big bulky headphones will generally offer better sound quality, but different people will find different headphones to be very uncomfortable, so they're best checked out in the store by the person who will be wearing them. However, by far, the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned were RCA HP285 over-the-ear headphones, which have a loop of rubber instead of a hard plastic clip, so they don't cause problems with my glasses or irritate my ears by putting too much pressure on the cartilidge. They pop right off if they get snagged on something, which can be somewhat annoying, but not as much as having the cord get damanged. They're still listed on RCA's website, but they don't seem to have an online store, and the only place I've ever seen them is at MediaPlay (which went out of business about a year ago), so you'll have to hunt around for them.
