I think most people made their own bread back then....

"A meager harvest in France increases the hunger that has oppressed the country since the poor harvest of last year. Controller-general Jacques Turgot reintroduces the free trade in grain that was abolished in 1766 (see 1768), but the rivers freeze, grain cannot be moved by barge, and the price of a four-pound loaf of bread rises in just a few months from 11 sous to 14 sous. A four-pound loaf has sold for as much as 16 sous in earlier years, but where in the past high prices were blamed on the weather, now the government is blamed (see 1776)."

Can't help with the price in 1776 but in 1976 a loaf of bread cost 41 cents in Australia!!!!

During the battle of 1776 only bread around was the one that said in GOD WE TRUSTS. I beleive they lost the recipe.

Probably relatively a lot, I think most people baked their own.
