Let me know who you are looking for (I'll need name, place of birth, year of birth, where they died and the date and I will do a search for you.

Or Go to Ancestry.co.uk and see if they are still offering the free trial period. If they are go to the home page and about half way down there is a link to Birth, marriage and death registers from 1838 to 2004. It wil be a brief info page that comes up and if you want to get hold of the deatch certificate you would have to apply to the place the death was registered and pay a fee.

If you have no luck there drop me an e mail and I'll have a look for you. The more details you have the better

I would start with checking the Social Security Death Index, which is available online at various places-I usually use www.rootsweb.com. You can put their name in the search engine. You'll get not only the year of death but year of birth.

Next I would write to the county clerk of the county where this person died and request a copy of their death certificate. This certificate may show not only information about the person's death but also the names of his parents and the place of his birth.

Next I would go to usgenweb.net, where I would go to the county of this person's death. I would see if the county has links to newspaper obits. Some do, some don't-usgenweb is a volunteer organization and so the information available at each county varies a great deal. But you can look at the site and see if anyone is researching the surname of this person. You can post a query about them, too. If you know other counties where this person may have lived or where they were born, you can go to those countries and submit queries as well.

If the person you are interested was living in 1930, you can also check the US census. This is a listing of individuals that is taken every 10 years, and started in 1790. There are many places on the internet where you can view the censuses, but heritage quest, available through your public library, has one of the most user friendly search engines. The LDS church is handy for looking in the 1880 census as well.

If the person you are interested in was in the armed forces, you can write the National Archives and ask for service records. If the person was in the Revolution or the Civil War, they may have pension applications, which are usually loaded with genealogical information.

There are many places you can look online for information, but the largest free site is www.rootsweb.com, and I would suggest you start there.

You could look up newspaper obituiaries or head down to the State offices and see if they have a record of death or anything documented about it.

From there, if you were adament on finding related persons, you could find out about family and current residence.

You go to the local library. Ask the librarian to show you how to look up obits on the computer or if they have them on old film you can read the paper of the town they lived in and that should have it.

Public library, local newspaper, and obitiuaries on microfilm .
UNLESS the "local newspaper" was online, and then just go to search, archives, and enter the person's name.

good luck.
