Diablo & Diablo 2, same makers, same game basiclly. If you play WOW, im sure you have heard of these. Diablo 2 online is exactly the same as WOW online, but it came out in 2000 or 2001, kind of outdated now.

Evercrack (Everquest) was the first MAJOR Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It started the trend of people throwing thier entire lives away because of a computer game and a fictional world. Beyond that you would have to look at paper based RPG's, like Dungeons and Dragons because that is where the entire concept came from in the first place.
WOW is revolutionary in the MMORPG world because it's not so complex that people are too confused to play. It's cartooney which attracts a lot of people and it's addicting, which gets them to stay.
