my nephew is getting christened next month and my sister has invited around 35 people but has no intention of doing anything afterwards for her guests. If you were invited would you expect some kind of get together?

It depends on the money available, but usually there is something after. I have been to one that was huge, and yet another where there was nothing after. The people skint. Usually it is something in the middle.

Yes, I would expect to have some sort of brunch if the Christening is held in the morning or at least some coffee and cake. It is a celebration that is happening when a Christening takes place, that is why family and friends are asked to attend in the first place.

It would be nice to have a party afterwards. Why isn't your sister making plans for this when she went thru the trouble of inviting 35 people to be at the church. She is not handling this appropriately........on the other hand why don't you help or do the party.

A christening is a very important advent in a child life, and all friends and relatives should be there to appriecate a new life of a child a party is a way of expressing this.

I agree that it is up to the parents if they want to hold a party or not. If it is a concern, ask them if they are planning a get together after wards. If not, then offer your home to have the guests meet there for a small gathering serving small sandwiches etc.

It would be nice if there was a light reception, usually it is customary if your invited to a christening, anyway, I would expect at least a cup of coffee.

Yes. I would expect a party unless it said otherwise on the invitation

In the place where I live, families often do have an open house after ceremonies like this. But not every single time.

So she's going to take the presents and run? I think it would be good manners to hold at least a small buffet afterwards. You don't need to spend a fortune!

apart from having a family reunion, it is all about becoming a christian , it is being freed from the state of origonal sin, it is all part of the beauty of one day having eternal life, it is in being baptised , of having our soul clean , it is the best thing a parent can do for their child, how wonderful you have been invited. congradulations and have a nice time.
