Women in the 60's and 70's did it all the time. My aunt has pics of my Mom doing just that when my Aunt was a teenager. Make sure you have lots of conditioner Infusium 23 leave in is the best so your hair wont frizz or fry, make sure hair is mostly dry too, that way you might not burn it as much, but if you could I'd go with a ceramic hair straightener, they do wonders.

yesss it will damage ur hair and give it either split ends or you can lose chunks of hair from the heat of the clothing iron since their made to be hot to straighten out clothes and not intended on doing your hair!!! a curling iron works if you just dont curl it kinda move it to flip your hair in more than out.....but a straightner is whats really intended to STRAIGHTEN your hair!!

Yes it ruins your hair. I do it all the time though, lol. If you use heat protectant products & keep it on a low setting, it's not that bad. But the results aren't as good as when it's on the highest setting. You put a washcloth on one side & the iron on the other, & tilt your head to the side as you do it. Most people wouldn't reccomend you use one though. Regular straighteners are really what you should use. I personally like Helen of Troy && CHI.

Please don't use a clothing iron, that'll break your hair, and it endangers you. Besides using anything that's hot, you could get it chemically straightened for a few months. Or, you could do it yourself and it will last about 1 month. You could get a kit at target, it's cheaper there. Of course anything you do to straighten your hair will somehow damage it. So make sure you get some good deep conditioning treatments.

an iron could burn your hair and make it really dried out...unless you use a steam iron, thats ok. but i think a better way to straighten your hair is by putting a little gel in your hair when you get out of the shower and drying your hair with the blow-dryer slanting down your hair...like vertical, sometimes that is faster and easier than using a straightener.

Big huge plastic rollers. No kidding. That's how ladies straightened their hair naturally before the invention of the hair dryer or straightening iron.

'actually they used to use irons as straighteners. The problem is it ruins your hair completely and isn't worth it. Plus the iron isn't made to straighten hair so it can burn you very easily, especially your face. DONT DO THIS not a good idea

I'm a hairdresser It won't damage your hair but you have to do it on low heat ,no steam, and put a piece of cloth like a cheese cloth or a piece of cotton cloth In the late 60's early 70"s it was the way to straghten hair !! Good luck. Oh ya do be careful and don't burn yourself!

Well if your going to straighten it with an iron, why not just use some straigtning irons. Its the same concept, accept an iron is for your clothes, straightners for your hair...see my point. I swear by my GHD's.
