I work mon-fri from 8-4:30pm but most of the time i leave my house at like 8-8:15am and arrive back home at 5pm and when I leave my 5month old pup (jack russell terrier/pitbull mix) home alone, he pees and also poops in the house! when i'm home, he's great and doesnt poop or pee and we've never had a problem with him during the night time but when he's home alone, that's when the issues start. My friend told me to just leave him water and very little food so he doesnt poop but i feel like if i leave him little food, that i'm starving him. How do I get him to stop pooping and peeing in my house? I dont want to use a crate and leave him in there all day long and i dont have a yard that i could leave him in. I live in an apt. and my question is, how do i handle this situation in the best manner and how do i resolve this issue?

You don't have many options. One suggestion would be to keep the dog penned in a small area such as the kitchen with a lot of newspaper (you can use a child safety gate). It will help in cleaning up the accidents and will minimize the impact on the rest of the apt. As he gets older, his bladder and bowl control will improve but whether its to the point of lasting all day remains to be seen. Good luck.

Puppies don't have that kind of control over their bladder yet. It's like telling a toddler not to pee for 10 hrs. Even for an adult dog that is still a long time to wait without going to the bathroom. Consider having a neighbor, family member or a pet service let your dog out for a bathroom break and some play time around noon. Also, using the crate will work the best- the smaller the better for potty training. A dog will not "do it's business" in the same location with his food and water. The bigger issue is you being gone so much of the day-if you think the poop and pee is a big deal, wait until the real behavioral and destructional issues start-and they will. A puppy is a full time job and an adult dog is still a 3/4 time job.

I agree-if you don't want to use a crate, you don't really have a lot of other options. I would try to limit him to a certain area (that you don't mind him going to the bathroom in). If you don't limit his access to the house when you aren't there, he's going to think that it is okay to use any area as a bathroom.

A 5 month old puppy is not going to have enough bladder and bowel control to last all day without having any accidents-even if you limit his food and water intake.

You've created your own problem, and you should have thought about these things before getting a puppy. Unlike adult dogs, puppies need A LOT of attention. I'm sorry to say this, but if you do not have time for this puppy, give it to someone who does.

My mom observed a 5 300 and sixty 5 days previous woman abused pit from a kill shield in Brooklyn, long island. She has had the comparable remarkable concern. faith (her dogs) grow to be general in the initiating, and progressively she began peeing and pooing contained in the abode extra generally. Yelling at her did no longer something because of the fact this grow to be an ABUSED dogs... canines that are abused are already in charge, yelling does no longer something yet lead them to experience even worse and scares them. My mom's answer has been leaving faith contained in the cage while she's dozing or no longer abode. while she is abode (that's plenty) faith had to be positioned on a schedule of going from the cage to outdoors until eventually she peed, lower back in for breakfast, and lower back out to poo. Now she is conscious popping out of the cage potential going outdoors. She loves walking so this isnt the hassle, in spite of the undeniable fact that it took her a whilst to be accustom to urinating and deficating on grass somewhat than grimy sidewalks. i do no longer comprehend what those undesirable human beings did to this undesirable dogs yet my mom has had her for 5 months now and he or she is in basic terms initiating to act like a dogs lower back. My mom's greatest criticism is that shes nevertheless no longer a puppy yet, even nevertheless she loves nutrition and interest and cuddles. faith would not comprehend her place right it is to purely be herself. i began out examining plenty on abused and ignored canines and the emotional misery they are going to proceed to experience for the remainder of their lives. it is the sweetest dogs I even have ever met in my finished existence and it breaks my heart that human beings have been so cruel to her (they think of she grow to be a breeder dogs for a dogs struggling with ring in a foul community the place they stumbled on her; by way of her scars, data of assorted pregnancies, loss of the teeth, and malnurished and underweight visual charm). Is your woman crate knowledgeable? i might check out getting a crate to make her little mattress room section. faith actually began eating the metallic in her crate (in all danger a hallmark of why she has fairly any the teeth) so my mom had to interchange with 2x4 boards on the two section so she does no longer get out. i might additionally propose putting your woman on a schedule. check out articles and books on looking after abused and ignored canines. the coaching for them is amazingly diverse because it would be for a enjoyed pup. that's annoying yet you're doing something outstanding, in basic terms comprehend that. good success!
