**THE FIRST TWO ARE IDEAL FOR THE LOWER BACK**

In my opinion, tattoos are a very personal thing... like a soul patch. I have often heard of lower back tats as being referred to as a "tramp stamp" or as quoted from the movie Wedding Crashers - a "Target" - being a sexual statement... use your imagination.

I work for a corporation. I have a lower back tattoo. Many times, it peeks out of the top of my pants if I am wearing a fitted shirt. I find this to be somewhat irritating. Unless you WANT the sleezy attention in the work place, I would advise getting your butterfly in a place that cannot be seen by others. I now wish I hadn't had my tattoo put there.
Good luck!

I have a butterfly tattoo on my lower back, and I just looked at the photo albums of artwork at the tattoo place and picked one I liked, I also have one on my ankle. Never regret it though, your body is a temple and I want mine to be decorated. Everyone says you are going to regret it when your sixty but it is not like I am going to be wearing a bikini at that age. You can also google butterfly images and take it into the tattoo shop. The artists are really good (or should be) and can draw anything!

P.s. Someone once told me a butterfly tattoo states that you like girls...but that design is so common now, I am sure it has lost its meaning.

If your going to get one in a few years i would recommend what my daughter did. She has two butterflies on her stomach intertwined that she designed herself. She kept the design by her for several months (years in your case) and looked at her design several times daily. She did this to make sure she was certain this was what she wanted on her body for the rest of her life.
As for what type of butterfly, browse the internet, there are loads of tattoo sites and download butterflies you like. You will see that there are not that many shapes, a lot of them are basicly the same, with different colours. The centre of my daughters butterflies are black lines inside the outline instead of block colour which in my opinion looks better.

I guess I am losing the battle against the term "tramp stamp." Oh, well I guess. Get the tattoo, if you love the design. A good artist can work with you and create a completely unique butterfly tattoo. I like to see BACK PIECES. My wife got one there way before it was a fad, and she is no where near a tramp. I have met some tramps, and they had no tattoos.

Tattooes are great to signify accomplishments or other memorial days and or events. If you are getting one just for the heck of it, then get something better than a butterfly. Better yet, create your own design. Its better to have meaning behind. you dont have to tell anyone, but it makes it that much more special. Like getting it done right after you lose your virginity or something. That way you can always remember it. haha

it's a very common, kind of cliche tattoo but if that's what you want, then that's you and you should get it if you really want it. Think of what it means to you though before you do it, are you doing it strictly for cosmetic reasons or just to get a tattoo or does a butterfly really mean something to you? If you really want to get one, I would either suggest one using realism or one with no color and it's just like an abstract kind of scribble butterfly, to at least make it unique moreso.

By the time 'a few years' pass, you'll probably change your mind and find something better, more personal and meaningful.

Trust me...at 14-15 I wanted crap like butterflies and kanji and by the time I was able to get a tattoo that had completely changed.

You and everybody else. Why not get a tattoo of something more original, in a more original place...if you insist on doing it at all?

I say, put a temporary tattoo on your lower back, replace it whenever it fades and keep it for a year. If you still like it and want it there, then consider going permanent.
