Has anyone's kid here had this disease.. I am so worried, his little face is swollen and he has a rash all over his body.. He seems fine, like he is not feeling overly ill, but the doctor told me this is a serious condition.. Any feedback would help.. thanks everyone!

My four year old just had this a few weeks ago. All it is is strep throat with a rash. Then it is called Scarlet fever. My little boy was on amoxicillion for 10 days and was fine. My stepdaughter had it a few years ago and it was the same thing. Antibiotics for 10 days. I don't think it is as serious nowdays as it used to be. Just keep an eye on him and if he starts to act sick call your doctor. My son also seemed ok, just a little itchy and the rash was gone 5 days into the medicine. The doctor told me to give him benadryl if he got to itchy.

He is also contagious until he has been on the antibiotics for 2 days. And my sons doctor told me that on the second day to throw away his toothbrush and buy him a new one so he wouldn't reinfect himself.

Good luck. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Good luck

It's not as bad as people make it out to be. It used to be serious years ago but now it's like baby flu. Just keep him comfortable, let him sleep a lot and keep the fever down with ibuprofen or Tylenol, he probably won't want to eat so give him lots of liquid since a fever can dehydrate and give him something for the rash if it's itchy. Don't worry he's going to be fine

My daughter had scarlet fever a couple of years ago(she was 7). It's not as scary as it sounds. In the old days it was serious and kids died from it. Nowadays complications are rare. It's similar to strep throat and has the same symptoms as well as the tell-tell rash. Just make your daughter comfortable. The only treatment is antibiotics and rest and time.

Scarlet fever can sometimes lead to a skin infection like impetigo or strep throat, usually not both. A strep test should be done and can be treated with antibiotics. If he has a sore throat, run a vaporizer and keep him hydrated. Trim his nails if he is itching. I am sure your doctor told you it is contagious by coughing or sneezing or if he has the skin infection, by skin contact. My son had it when he was little also and it sounds scarier than it is. Keep him comfortable. Good luck. :)

Why are you asking us online? Didn't your Dr give you specific advice for this serious condition? Maybe you should follow your Dr's advice before you follow a stranger on the internets!

Actually...maybe you should get off the computer and go spend time with your poor baby!!
