Should I exchange currency within NYC or wait until I arrive in Paris?

I am planning on visiting Paris. Will it be reasonable to exchange currency within NYC or should I wait to exchange in Paris.

Or, should I exchange some in NYC and the rest in Paris?

Or, use my debit card in Paris?

The best way to exchange money is to go your local bank in NYC and exchange it there. If you plan on using a card, use your credit card not your debit card in Paris. If you use your debit card at the ATM in Paris, you'll be hit with massive fees. I always recommend using a credit card, because if anything goes wrong, the credit card company will give you your money back.

Also, the debit card technology in France is outdated so most U.S. debit cards don't work there. Sometimes it will work but most of the time, the debit cards don't work. I've been to Paris several times and encountered this problem - it's quite embarassing.

It's difficult to say when you should change your currency since the exchange rate changes constantly . I would say your best bet would to change some now and the rest when you arrive in Paris.
