Bah, hooey. There is no FLOUR in communal hosts, and I certainly hope that the people claiming that AREN'T catholics.

Flour is processed. Communal hosts are made from raw unprocessed, unleavened (no yeast or risers of any sort) wheat and 100% pure water. Salt should not be included if at all possible, and minimized if it is not possible to avoid.

At the same time, why would you want to make communal hosts? without consecration by a priest in the sacrament of Holy Communion they're nothing but little pieces of wheat bread...

just buy it...i think they have different kinds in packages online at church supply website, or in catalouges just search around a bit. find an itallian bread recipe, not like french bread, for a more authentic version of what jesus may have used. kind of like a rounded loaf, and to make the crust really hard, brush egg whites over the sufrace of the loaf.

or just take a normal bread recipe, and don't put yeast in it. it will be flat like a thin pancake when you bake it, so pour it onto a cookie sheet with edges. then cut it into small pieces for the more flat communion bread look. similar to a cracker recipe.

communion bread is any kind of bread. religiously, it doesn't really matter.

Depends on your denomination. Different churches have different requirements for such bread.

my mom used to make pie dough from the betty crocker cookbook without the salt (it's not supposed to have leavening.) It's just flour and shortening and water.

why. u want jesus's flesh to taste better? why would u even participate in this ritualistic cannibalism where u pretend to eat flesh and drink blood... sounds cultish to me.
