Try rinsing with saline-salt mixed with warm water. And put Orajel on it. It takes the pain away right away, believe me, because I just had oral surgery (much more painful than any sore) and the pain was gone instantly. Good luck! I hope it feels better.

Saltwater rinses and over-the-counter products like Kanka do help. But I found that rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide solution (the 3% stuff in the brown bottle on the First Aide aisle) helped me a lot. It "debrides" the wound and kills the germs.
Be sure the rinse well afterward. It will irritate your throat if you swallow a lot of it.

Also,
1. general prevention: Keep your immune system strong. Canker sores are a strain of herpes virus. I find when I don't get my rest, have a lot of stress, or am catching a cold, it give the virus an opportunity to bloom into sores.
2. Acidic foods (pineapple, strawberries, orange juice) make the wound heal more slowly.

do you mean a canker sore? You can rinse with salt water or buy some Kanka...that is medicine that helps it heal but it hurts like hell to put it on.
