I'm not 75 - yet - but I, too, was hospitalized for a while. My granddaughter brought her class project on families for me to help her with. As we talked, we wrote out a history of our family that she wouldn't have been able to access anywhere else. Perhaps if the two of you could write a similar history together, she might become more interested in her healing.

Another thought: ask if your hospital has a program wherein animals such as cats or dogs visit patients as "therapy animals". Many do, and these programs have helped many patients heal more quickly.

Thanks for caring so much about your grandmother; she's fortunate to have you for a granddaughter!

Older people LOVE to talk. It may surprise you how much you can learn from her. Try to tap into all that wisdom. Ask her things that would be interesting to know like, how was school different in her day than it is today? They love to talk about themselves!

I commend you for taking care of her!

My mum is 72, she suffers from depression and acute anxiety. We find jigsaw puzzles are a very useful tool in combating that. It helps if she has some company too though.
