I'm friends with this girl at school (both in 10th grade) but want to ask her out. She is the sporty type and want to do something cool for a first date. any good ideas?

One of those all inclusive minature golf/batting cages/bowling places is pretty funs if you have one around. Otherwise, Ice skating provides the perfect oppurtunity to hold hands and get closer because you most likely end up falling into/over each other.
Also, if there is a good terrain where you are, then offer to take her on a winter hike. Bring hot chocolate in a thermos and a snack. If the environment isn't really beautiful around though it will just become miserable because of the cold.

Well, I am a girl and I know that I would love it if a guy took me on a picnic. I dont know what the weather's like for you, but your food could go along with that, and it would be a good way to get to know each other...instead of a more formal dinner.
butttt you could always go bowling, since she's the sporty type.

Feel her out, and see if there is something she has always wanted to do and never done, also, ask her friends what they think would be a good idea, they will know her best

Depends where you live... you dont have to do something in her liking but you can do something spontanious! Like go to the beach or the lake after dinner just talk about random stuff... gives you time to get to know her! Oh and dont forget a mini note pad to write down all the little things... dont make it obvious like when you go to the bathroom or something. Write down her favorite flower, or candy... the little things do count!

If you really want to impress her you need to do something unusual and fun. Some unusual things are rock climbing, boat races, roller coaster rides, I don't know what is available in your area. Check around and see what there is. You might talk to some of her friends and see what she thinks is really hot.

Or find out sporting events she would possibly be interested in going to.
If you have them money, first date at a theme park is always awesome if you guys are into that.

go to a place were you can race go-carts and play put-put have lunch . Do it on a saturday and hangout all day
