Chipped teeth, enamel wear on teeth, otherwise there isn't really much of an infection risk as the tongue and tissue in the mouth heals extremely fast.

There is a risk of infection with any piercing. The risks inherent to tongue piercing are chipped teeth and damaged enamel (at least until you learn to live with it).
The other thing to consider (depending on your age) is that having a radical piercing (tongue, eyebrow, nose) is that it can damage your job prospects. (And you can't take it out until it heals).
As for whether or not you should do it? Eh, that's up to you and I can't advise you unless I know more about your situation. People who see the piercing will make certain assumptions about your character (I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it will). There will be some pain involved (the tongue is a muscle). And people get really grossed out if you fiddle with it (especially if you suck on it - the noise is really off-putting)
Hope this helps

You can run a risk of infection. An infection in the tounge can occlude you airway and make life miserable. There is also a chance that the piercer can hit on of the nerves in your tounge. This can cause trouble speaking, moving the tounge, and/or tasting.
The last two are unlikely but has happened to many people. The truth of the matter is that the worse thing that will happen is that you will erode the backs of your front teeth that after time will result in irrepairable damage. You will chip a tooth eventually and you will catch it and your tounge in teeth and bite the crap out of it accidently.

i think the only risk you might have is the fact that you have a large artery vein in your tounge... if it gets punctured your tounge can actually lose its feeling forever.... basically means your tounge will be officially dead... before you go to a place where they pierce your tounge, ask them for a piercing sheet that shows how many messups they have at that exact location. You want to pick a place that has the least amount of errors.

Infection, chipping of teeth, damage to the enamel. If you don't do what is told the tongue might grow over the piercing. Worst case scenario, there are some people who've lost their tongues to piercing.
If you follow all the rules most of the problems can be avoided.

Infection, chipping and breaking of teeth, ulcers of the mouth.
Not a wise decision.
