I own Turbo Tax 2005. Do I have to buy 2006 or can I just buy an "update"?

You have to buy a new one. The updates on their website only work for the 2006 product, and don't update the 2005 version to 2006. The updates are for fixes to the program, and for tax law changes for 2006 that came out after the software was distributed.

go to www.irs.gov
and file online with out buying it
I use www.completetax.com myself - but have used turbo tax in the past.

No such thing as an update you have to buy it anew every year.
