Well, if you want to buy a cat, why does it need to be online? Most of them would be purebreds, ranging in thousands of dollars.

Unless you are planning on meeting the cat before you purchase it, I would not buy a cat online. Cats have so many different personalities, just like people. It is important that you meet the cat and see how it reacts to YOU (just because a cat is one way with someone, doesn't mean it will be that way to you).
If you wanted to look at cats online that are in a shelter, look at http://www.petfinder.com. They will list the cats in shelters in your area.
Unless you are showing, there is no need for a purebred cat. There are millions of cats that need good homes. Especially adult cats. Please, check out the shelter. You never know, there may be a purebred that needs a good home, if that is what you are looking for. Plus you would be helping with a huge problem.
Sorry I sound like a humane society ad, I just love cats and hate to think of them stuck in shelters.

Look in the classified ads in your local paper because people are always giving kittens and cats away for free or at least very cheap and that way you can go meet the cat before you take it home and will have more choices

Try the free and the pets sections of craigslist for your city. You won't even have to pay for the kitty, just give it a good home!
