Your advice was right in regards about him approaching his high school guidance counselor for advice. Grades are very important for college admission, but they also take into consideration school activities, volunteer work, hobbies, etc. Grades should be at least a C in most courses, but with the math and science courses, it should be at least a B grade. An idea is maybe volunteer at a hospital. I have enclosed some links and information that should be helpful.
