I think some of your best bets are Venice Beach. Maybe it's touristy, but such an open air theater I think it's worth it
Either Getty museums is a good choice, also the Huntington Library in San Marino or most any of our museums.
Previous poster has a point, most everything here is designed for the tourist or the shopper. So it's either museums, parks, or sporting events.

Downtown hollywood is large. you may stroll over and spot the stroll of acceptance that's huge! as quickly as I went to la i became taken aback at how large it became i presumed it became teeny tiny yet there are 1000's of stars. you will discover the Hollywood Museum with props from video clips like Twilight. this is rather cool. around the line is the Guinness museum and Madame Tussuad's. you will be able to additionally excursion the two the Kodak theater, that's what i did and it is so cool and not too costly. you additionally can take a excursion of Grauman's chinese language theatre yet i did no longer do it so i can not supply you any advice approximately that :) they have a tricky Rock Cafe there that's dazzling for a eating place it is sort of distinctive and in comparison to McDonalds or something. purely go searching and grab a brochure. there is much to do on Hollywood Blvd!

Don't listen to the first poster Lukeee, who said L.A. "damn its a dirty place".
LA is huge. Areas on the Westside like Beverly Hills, Brentwood. Malibu, etc. are very clean and full of celebrities. Stars don't want to live in dirty areas...
Relaxing at a beach in Malibu is a good place to start. It's not so crowded..
Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is a famous shopping district, but it is always filled with tourists.
There's also Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain/Hurricane Harbor....very fun.
