No double meanings. The people back then did consider it an abomination.
Luckily, we're past such old world superstition now. Well... at least some of us.

Abomination is Abomination.... it is an english word to convey the meaning that God dose not like something...really, really, for sure, dose not like something.... concerning dietary restrictions... those were implimented by God for God's reason... that shellfish and some other "food" was dangerouse if not properly handeled....and that they did not have the means to do so in the old times... it is only suposition to say that is why God said not to eat them.... but the diatary laws were modified by God through the teachnig of what many refer to as "The New Testiment"...the Jews rejected that teaching and stick to a modified version of the old law.... eat anything that is pleasing to your pallette..... just be carfull.... many die every day from bad food.... or improperly prepaired food.

Reform Judaism sees the original word (the one translated as "abomination") in a cultural context rather than as a general condemnation. In other words, "abomination" relates to the times and is subject to modification.

In the Old Testament it was an abomination because it could kill you. The word hasn't changed definitions. Just what is considered an abomination.

It does mean 'unsanitary' or 'disgusting.' But most of the dietary restrictions in the OT were meant to keep the Hebrews separate from the Canaanites. Communal meals were used to forge alliances in ancient societies.
