Religion seems to do just the opposite of what it claims to do. It brings people further from God, in my opinion. What are your thoughts on this?

Every organization whether religious or civic is always founded on the merit of what is good either for few or many. Religion was founded to enhance a belief of a group that would strengthen their faith and most of the time they will always agree to what is right and good for everyone. Evil taught comes in later when it grows and someone would decide that there is something missing or there is a need to change some pattern of activities. In that case, there is always those who will want to maintain a status quo as well as those who want a change. Then, those who have the well established position will naturally demonize anyone who will oppose.
It is always like a knife invented to cut a tomato or bread but someone came to use it to cut a human life. Everything starts with a good intention and surely, greed will always come to make the difference.

I agree with you completely.. Organized religion has nothing to do with bringing us closer to God, nothing at all.
Did the Devil invent organized religion, no, I don't think so, but it sure seems like it.

At this point in life after taking a big look at what Christiandom has become... I can say I partially agree with you. Yet, because God is so much bigger than we are and satan put together... He does have a remnant that is spread throughout the world and those people do worship Him in spirit and in truth...... these are the true children of God. <<< Satan cannot conquer God there!!! I tend to think that people allowed satan to take over lots of churches because of their selfishness, greed and desire to be rich and famous like hollywood. These people are said to follow the 'American Jesus' and not the Jesus of the Scriptures!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess we'll find out sooner or later, right?

No, the devil didn't invent organized religion. He merely sanctioned it when he saw how easily man would attempt to cover his sin by his own works! that in a nutshell is what religion is; MAN'S view of God, right and wrong, and etc. Man's first act of religion is there for all to see when Adam and Eve partook of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and began to realize they were naked. They became "ashamed" as the Scripture says and "....sewed together fig leaves for garments" (justifying their nakedness by their OWN works). Satan merely saw how "ingenious" man could be with his eyes opened, and ran with it!

Religion was started a long time ago to keep moral values in check and society in order. It is man made! There is no God or Devil! You are what you make yourself.

You mean like creating holy wars and terrorism(the result of religion)? I think God wouldn't create something that would result in hate and destruction.
Human beings made the religion.
So the human are the devil?

No,

But like all other things men do, he infiltrates it every chance he gets.

Religion is not the problem, it is people doing bad things in the name of Religion that is the problem.

Peace!

fake. prepared faith can trick people out of their money, yet people supply that money willingly. The soul is an intangible ingredient of human existence. Incapable of being measured, weighed or examined. So how the frick ought to or no longer that's stolen?
