I either want to enlist in the Marines as a Machine Gunner (0351) or in the Air Force as an Aerial Gunner on a Helicopter (I forget the code). Whats your advice?

I'd have to say the Marines........if I were in your shoes. You'll then be a member of the Corps.......the brotherhood. Plus they are bad to the bone.

Make a compromise and join the Marine Air Wing. You can be a Marine and sleep in nice barracks and get the benefits similar to being in the Air Force. If you go into the Marine Air Wing, you have every opportunity open to you. You already have a job similar to being in the Air Force and many other opportunities are open to you. If you are squared away you can apply for HMX-1 which is the squadron that flies the President. You can get harder training than most Marines by applying for air crew. You can apply for embassy duty. If you really like being a Marine and want to work on it you can apply for MARSOC or Recon. About the only thing not open to you is scout/sniper. Why limit yourself by joining the Air Force?

I think you need to decide up front as to whether or not you are ready to go into a combat situation. You are much more likely to see that as a grunt in the Marines than from a helo in the USAF. While it may be more difficult to actually get in the Air Force, it is far more difficult to become a Marine. As the old saying goes..."If everyone could do it, it wouldn't be the Marines!" There are pros and cons to every service that you need to evaluate, but I highly recommend the USMC to anyone....provided you are prepared for it. Good luck in whatever choice you decide to make.

I was Marine, MOS 0311 detatched with Force Recon. The training for the Marines is longer and boot camp is intence. I don't know much about the air force but either way I thank you

Either the Marines or even the Army, both of which also have chopper door gunners.

Air Force - the casualty rate is very low - unless there is a major global conflict it will remain low. In the marines you will be subject to so many dangers - shrapnel , IEDs etc - you can train to be a pilot in the airforce -

Air Force living conditions are much better, but, promotions are much slower. You live longer, and better, but don't get the promotions that other services provide. Marines, living conditions suck, but promotions are much faster, mostly because everyone else got shot. You live a riskier life, but it's never dull. So, take your choice, slow, quiet, and air conditioned, or wild, fast, exciting, and eating sand lice.
