Since you have a GLS, I'm assuming that you have the 2.0 cross flow.

There are a couple of low cost things that you can do that will gain you some performance but not a ton.

Computer chip- better acceleration and pick up.

Air Intake- Better air flow into your engine and better sound when revving.

Exhaust- Better flow of exhaust

Shocks/Springs- This will make your car handle better even without any horsepower gains allowing you to take better advantage of the horsepower that your car already has.

there are a bunch of people in the A3 forum and you should be able to pick up a lot of this stuff used for reasonable prices. They also will be able to give you hints about other things you can do as well.

A lot of it depends on how much you want to spend and whether you want to improve: Looks, Horsepower, Handling or all 3.

if its a VR6, there are tons of options out there. I turboed my 97 GTi VR6, and was putting down 280 hp, or 240 at the wheels. it was pretty quick. cost me about 2500 bucks, but was well worth it.

as for cheap mods, there really arent any that give large gains.

and if youre a 2.slow, they dont call it the 2.slow for nothing.
