Why did "God" punish Adam and Eve (and all of us actually) for disobeying before they even knew what disobeying was? That doesn't make any sense.
And seriously....no stupid answers, because theists are KNOWN for their lame excuses.

I thought I said NO STUPID ANSWERS, you morons. Even if he told them not to do it, they don't know that it would be "disobeying".

Yeah, really. I thought that they were created perfect and became sinful beings only after eating the fruit. That means that eating the fruit in the first place was not a sin.

First off...If you don't like the answer to the question, why did ask the question in the first place and then insult everyone who doesn't answer to your satisfaction? It seems you just came in here looking to insult anyone who disagrees with you...I thought atheists were supposed to be open minded than that?
Anyway, the Biblical answer is in Genesis 3...its all right there. They did indeed know what they were doing was wrong and they DID know they were disobeying. It was because they gave into evil temptation (i.e. Satan) that they were punished for disobeying God's commandment.
Like it or not, thats the answer.

I think they knew very well what disobedience was. And you're right, all of us are worthy of punishment, we call it original sin.
I'm not sure how this doesn't make sense to you if you read through the Bible and see just who this God is that we worship. You'll see that He's not a sugar-daddy in the sky, in fact he beat his own chosen Israel to a pulp sometimes in the OT. Christianity is not for the comfort-zone, easy-believism minded. If you're thinking that what they did wasn't all that bad, just look at Jesus' sayings about cutting your eyeballs out and your hand off in order to avoid hell. This is the perfection that God demands, and Adam, created good, didn't measure up. Neither do I, neither do you. The rest I'm sure you heard about, God the Father took an innocent Lamb and slaughtered it for us. Blood sacrifice, His own Son, paying the price for our sins.
Make sense?

Well the official story is distorted, but let me give you my opinion on what really happened. Adam and Eve wanted to have wisdom like the Gods, the knowledge of all things good and evil. I always enjoyed this poem by Aeschylus:
"He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon our hearts. And in our despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."
Basically they needed to experience suffering in order to truly understand what it is, and thus grow spiritually.
Alterna, I'm not saying God punished Adam and Eve. I'm saying he gave them what they wanted. Besides, you can only go into the story so much. It's like 4 pages long. It's a love story, anyway.

Considering that Satan who was once an angel and was able to be disobiedient, I don't think there is an issue for Adam and Even to be. Many times I will say No to my son and he will innocently continue to do the same thing that he is not supposed to. Does this mean it isn't wrong? No it doesn't, required action is needed in order for the point to be made that it is wrong. Without punishment there is no consequence. If someone comes to our country and murders another human being because it is legal in their country, does that mean we shouldn't punish that person because they innocently believed they were not doing anything wrong?

What is with the blaming us all the time. There are only 2 logical solutions, the Bible God made mistakes, or the Bible God is false. The Bible God is not perfect, it's obvious in his creation, it's obvious in his followers, it's obvious in his book.
If God is all knowing, Adam and Eve never had free will because God knew that they'd eat from the tree when he put it out there.

Sometimes a loving father has to discipline his sons out of love and devotion to see them succeed in life.
God is the Father.
In other words, it further proves his love for us.
Is that a stupid answer?
A loving father tells his child not to touch the stove for a reason: It has consequences. It hurts!
We touched the stove anyway.
And God STILL reached down and gave us a way out!
Unconditional love.

God gave a clear instruction to Adam...
Genesis 2: 16,17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
and God even explained to Adam in Genesis 3:17
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;...
we then read in Romans chapter 5 that through one man's disobedience we all have sinned...meaning we all descend from Adam and inherit Adam's Sin nature....
And I think you are the bigger moron...you apparently dont know the meaning of disobedience...when your mother tells you to do something you don't think do I obey or disobey you do what your mother tells you...same thing....we do what God says..

IF they didn't know that what they were doing was wrong, then why were they ashamed?
Second of all,not ALL theists are Christians. Many Pagans are theists as well.
