What naive westerners dont understand is, the Islamic world is so different, that ALL assumptions about humanity or "basic goodness" or "badness" must be discared in order to understand the root cause of the worldwide conflict.

An American might say "look, Christians believe that no one can be saved but through Christ, isnt that the same?"

Answer: Yes and No. The key distinction always boils down to free choice. Christianty is a false religion, like all of the rest, but Christianty emphasizes the choice. In other words, you must chose, and thus you have a choice. Its the very choice that is the test in itself!

Muhammad was obviously a false prophet. He denied the crucifixion of Jesus, the event which has redeemed mankind from sin and opened the gates of Heaven to all those who repent and believe. Islam draws people away from this truth of salvation, by pretending it didn't happen.
The Quran instructs Muslims, not to question the authority of the Old or New Testaments of the Bible:
"And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; Sura 29:46
Say: "O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law (Torah), the Gospel (Injeel), and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord." Sura 5:68
In spite of this the Quran itself denies the account of the crucifixion in the Bible, therefore contradicting itself.
The usual Muslim response to this is that the Bible has been altered since the Quran was written. However, in addition to historical sources, we have copies of Bibles that are older than Islam which all contain the account of the Crucifixion of Jesus. They were the Bibles which would have been in use at the time of Muhammad, before the Quran existed. Therefore, according to the Quran itself, Muslims must accept everything that these original, ‘UNALTERED’ Bibles say, including the Crucifixion and all the teachings of Jesus.

Also non-Biblical, historical sources, written long before the Quran existed, testify to the historical fact of the Crucifixion of Jesus, for example; In the "Annals" written by Roman historian Tacitus, in Book XV, Chapter 44 we read, "Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius."

The Roman Historian Seutonius wrote in his work "Life of the Emperor Claudius" the following about Christians: "and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws."

The Roman historian Pliny wrote about Jesus' death in Book X of his Epistles.

Julius Africanus, quoting Thallus another Roman historian, who wrote in about 52 A.D. about the miraculous happenings the day the Jesus was killed. He wrote: "On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down."
The reliability of the Christian Scriptures is confirmed by many other ancient sources 500 + years before Islam. They agree that the scriptures were written by both eyewitnesses and their close associates. Many other eyewitnesses were still alive who could have disputed any errors. There is actually more evidence for the crucifixion of Jesus than many other historical events which are accepted as fact.
