If you love the person, I can't possibly see how it would be bad (of course I'm not religious). Marriage is just an official technicality for the government, how the two of you feel about about each other is what's really important. Personally, I think two people should know each other in "that way" before they decide to spend the rest of their lives together, just to be sure sure that they're compatible in "that way" (trust me, two people may not match up well in that department).

Fornication is living with someone you aren't married to (something popularized by the media)
Just now that God blesses your patience.
Much like a sandwich tastes WAY better (especially from Quizno's) when you wait to eat it... know what I mean?
The Bible says that sex is a gift from God for married couples, and it is more than just "flesh on flesh". It's a spiritual expierience.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the scripture.
Do what you will, but God rewards patience. Ask a true married Christian what they think and some things they may have regretted before marraige.
"Daughters of Zion, I implore you, do not awaken love until it so desires"
That's in Song of Solomon; his wife says it 4 times in that book.

I have no idea what religion you are so I'll speak from a Catholic viewpoint.
St Thomas:
"It is written (Tob. 4:13): 'Take heed to keep thyself. . . from all fornication, and beside thy wife never endure to know a crime.' Now crime denotes a mortal sin. Therefore fornication and all intercourse with other than one's wife is a mortal sin." - St. Thomas Aquinas ("Summa Theologica" 13th century A.D.)
From the Catechism of the Catholic church:
2353. "Fornication is carnal union between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman. It is gravely contrary to the dignity of persons and of human sexuality which is naturally ordered to the good of spouses and the generation and education of children. Moreover, it is a grave scandal when there is corruption of the young."
2396. "Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices."
Some from the bible:
"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." - 1 Corinthians 6:18
"[This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." - Galatians 5:16-21
"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." - Mark 7:21-23
"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God." - Ephesians 5:3-5
In addition, any sex that is recreational, even in marriage, is still a sin. You aren't supposed to be having sex without the intent to procreate. Most people having pre-marital sex are doing it recreationally, that's just adding one sin onto another.
Drew: Marriage was around long before our current government. It originally was a religious sacrament. You have been greatly misinformed that it's just "legal". If it were just "legal" then homosexual marriage would be no big deal.

I think if you love the person and are going to marry them then its fine. I think Idahomeike's comment to be offensive to me as a christian. You think your opinion is law. Its Christians like you that make other people think badely of us. your "holyer than thou" attitude is ridiculous. Get a Life and Get a Brain. I had sex with my husband a few weeks before we got married as far as we both concerned we were married that night and standing before the church was for our family.
And Idahomeike, you have to look int he bible for answers, whats the bible to you a history book? the bible is the answer to help us live better resorting to the bible to find what you believe is what you suppose to do. Maybe you believe whatever you are told but as Christians its the point to bible study and find our what YOU believe not what everyone elses believe. Studying the bible allows God to give to you what you are suppose to do witht he word. Have fun being that lemmings.

You have clearly been poorly instructed.... you need to be in contact with those who are Bible Believing and Bible teaching...There are some debateable issues withing biblical study..... but you are way off on this subject.... premarital sex is a no-no...period..... this is not the place for a bible study... this forum is dominated by deception... you need to seek out Bible study help from one dedicated to Bible study and dedicate yourself to improving yours........
btw... you can not have been a "christian" all of your life... only one who comes to God in The Way God prescribes and receives His free Gift of Salvation becomes of The True Christian Faith... no one can be "born" a Christian. Unless at the age of accountability, or after, one comes to God as He prescribes.... that individual is NOT a Christian...

It is your choice. If you want to have sex before marriage go ahead, it's not going to hurt anyone. If you believe that you are going to "hell" for it, then at least you will be there with many other people.

I believe that you should do whatever works for you, as long as you are safe and prepared to handle the possible consequences, including waiting until you find "the One".
