First congratulations on buying the best breed of dog going
Now I have a 20 month old *****, we had a similar problem as you say not noisy but stressed, they love to love you so any separation is stressful for them ( and you) we found that on our return we always brought her back a gift either a toy or a chew the toys need only be cheep ones from the local £1 shop and a bag of rawhide chews from the the local pet store
This was not an immediate cure but after a couple of weeks our neighbour reported that she no longer made any noise and on our return she was waiting behind the front door for her treat
This way she learnt that being left for a while ended up in a good deal she is now quite happy for us to and leave her BUT she does expect her reward
Hope this helps R

Get a "kong" available at any pet supply store. It's a rubber cone, hollow inside with holes at each end. Fill it with kibble and peanut butter, or kibble and yogurt, or whatever you like. Freeze it ahead of time.
It will keep him busy for quite awhile.
I also leave the tv or radio on for my dog when I'm not home, as the sound of human voices calms her.
It's also a good idea to tire your dog out with a good walk before you leave him alone.
It's important that you never give attention (positive or negative) to the whining as it will only intensify this problem.

As he only whines for a short while and is relaxed when you get in I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd be more worried if he was frantic when you get in and annoying the neighbours. He probably is missing you as he follows you everywhere but he sound's fine at least he does have some company from the cats and is probably wandering why they can go out and peed off that he can't join them I would ha ha!!

German Shepherd. yet please, do no longer purchase your dogs for not often something off the internet! particularly with the breeds you have reported, they'll maximum probable have undesirable temperaments and be badly behaved and merciless. whether you prefer a guard or secure practices dogs, a vicious one you got on line isn't a stable thought. Why do no longer you check out some community commercials or bypass to the closest dogs pound. they might have an Alsatian or a Staffie there. they could be a splash volatile or badly behaved to start with, yet a minimum of you would comprehend their background. in certainty, i decide to advise something like a Labrador or a Weimeramer for you. check out getting a style of particularly, and please think of heavily earlier figuring out to purchase a dogs. stable luck! =D

To me it sounds like your neighbors right. He is probably missing you but it's good for him to have a little time without you. I work at a kennel and I have seen a few dogs come in that have NEVER been left by their "parents" and they have very bad seperation anxiaty. If he is only whining for a few minutes then he is probably wanting to go with you. Then when he sees your not coming right back he goes and does his own thing. Sounds like you have a good dog.

You could try a Kong toy, filled with his favorite treats..Just hand it to him as you leave, and take it back when you are home..It will soon become a pleasant experience for you to leave..

Try leaving some food for you dog when you leave, so he concentrates on eating instead of you leaving. Really helped with my dog, but he's actually quite greedy and forgets everything when there's food around...

get a kong toy - then fill the inside with treats so it gives him something to do whilst you are out.
only give him this whilst you are out and make sure you take it off him when he returns.

Your dog is not happy to be left at home while you are away, but you have to teach him that his behavior is not acceptable. It is ok to miss you, but he shouldn't whine-they do it to get your attention, and I see he got yours:)
