You are totally liable for what ever happens to that item. There is no defense of "But I gave it to my friend, he was suppose to return it."

Even though when you ask someone to "take care" of an issue...they should use reasonable care in making sure the item was return as requested...the issue with the missing item is between you and the college.

To your advantage...you also have an issue with the person you intrusted with the item to return to the college.

The college essentially has a case against you....and you against the friend!

Best wishes!

You trusted him to return it, so, unfortunately, it's your problem.

If you gave him your car payment to take to the bank, do you think the bank would care what he did with it? It was your responsibility to return the item, so the college is going to come after you.

They can withhold your diploma if you don't make restitution by graduation time. Get this cleared up now.

Sounds like his problem. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you didn't take this "item." Depending on how much it costs he could go to jail.

You and your friend could go to jail for stealing. They clearly know who did it, find him and return it before things get worse.

He will hunted down by the ACLU and be murdered.
