have you read the story on the front page of yahoo yet?? this poor couple cant afford to bring their child into this world. I know they should've been more thoughtful about their money before they had kids but don't you think it's morally wrong to keep your child in the hospital because you can't afford to pay for the delivery right away. and what do you think would happen if the couple couldn't afford to pay it in the end?? any insight is greatly appreciated.

Of course holding the baby sounds barbaric to us...but the article does say that it's common practice in Indonesia...that doesn't make it right but let's all be thankful that we live in America, no matter it's flaws.

One interesting thing I did note is that they will take care of the baby until the parents pay for the birth...but will they be charged for the care in the meantime??? Something to wonder...

Wow and we think our health care system is in trouble. That is such a sad story I kind of doubt that they had the opportunity to save any money for this due to the fact that he barely earns a dollar a day that sounds like barely enough to feed himself and his wife and what he had already paid had been borrowed from friends. I think that it is morally wrong to hold that baby hostage until the fee is paid, and that is what this hospital is doing whether they admit it or not it's a disgusting practice. Why don't they make there health care rules a little more clear it's not like these people are well educated. Maybe they should give these people options like a midwife instead of Dr.'s and hospitals especially when they know that they can't afford it. In the end if the parents can't pay it wouldn't surprise me if the baby ended up in a orphanage, even though she has parents that want her. Sad story. But maybe Angelina Jolie is looking for an Indonesian child to add to her culturally diverse family.

OMG that is so horrible! I would hate to have my baby away from me. Jeeze, why cant they make a payment plan with the couple instead of backing them into a corner? It makes me feel blessed to live in America after hearing stories like this.

I wonder what would happen if the parents cant get the money payed off? That's a good, but very sad question. It makes me wonder if they send them off to an orphanage or something more barberric...How horrible!!! I hope the parents can get their baby girl!

Hi i read it, ii had never heard of this kind of thing its awful. I dont know where you are from but in uk this doesnt matter, we dont need any insurance, although people do choose to buy medical insurance. I had my two in a national health hosp, and was treated very well. That is abhorrant to any civilized society your baby is yours, not if you are abusive obviously, but being poor has no effect on your ability as a parent, i hope the couple in question get some help soon.

I say send the baby home with its mom and dad, What good are they doing for this child who needs its parents right now and breast milk if the mom wants to nurse. This is wrong of the hospital. I hope in the end the parents can sue the hospital for child endabgerment.

This makes me so angry. Is there anything that can be done. Is there a way to notify ABC news or anything like that. I want to so something, but what can one person do? If anyone has any ideas of a way to help this family and make this a big story, I'd love to know.

To us yes this is morally wrong, but keep in mind that this is a different country with very different belief systems than we have in the United States.

I'm glad I don't live in Indonesia! Seems like an odd practice, though the story states its somewhat normal. It certainly wouldn't fly here in the U.S.
