I have to agree & disagree with some of these answers. Wet foods are great only if moderation. They can cause excess gas and do not contain all the nutrients that a dry diet contaians. And for a growing puppy it needs all it can get to grow properly.

Calling the breeder is the first thing you want to do. Find out what momma & the pups have been eating. Start feeding that and if you want to switch than you can eventually do that. Feed the dry according to the directions on the bag. If he doesnt take to it, try spicing it up with a gravy or goats milk. Both can be found at your local pet store.

If your pup still refuses to eat you should see a vet to rule out any health possibilities. Good luck.

my yorkie is a hear old... and she is the pickiest eater ever!!!!
its a pain cause I have gone through every food brand and have to swtich things up. Also I always have to put treats in a her food to entice her.
Don't worry about it. I would try giving him nutrical ( which u might be already) u can buy it at a pet store or a vets office. It helps stimulate their appetite. Our dog is a year now but the first few months we gave her nutrical everyday.
Nutrical doesn't work that well with our dog. Shes really picky!!!
but it helps keep her blood sugar up - which as u know is very important with little Yorkie ( small breed puppies)
The good news is.... he'll never be over weight ! and you don't have to worry about leaving a lot of food out - that he'll eat it all at one time. So you can leave food out and be gone for longer periods.

The best thing to do is contact the peolple you got him from, as they will tell you what he has been on ,and should stick to what he is used too! If they say he was a picky eater to start with you will just have to find a food he likes , I always found that pedigree pouches for puppies was a winner every time! And then if you want him to go onto dry food later on like I did slowly start introducing puppy dry food into it a little at a time!!! Good luck!

My son was/is the same way and he's 15! He will eat mac and cheese, pudding (has milk in it!), cheese pizza, and cereal. He is starting to try different things finally. I hate to say it, but I just cut way back on all the food I bought. We didn't have much to choose from (on purpose). Eventually, he got hungry enough to eat things like refrigerated biscuits, gravy, ravioli, different types of cereal (kids will eat cereal if nothing else is around that they like, try some of the sweet stuff at first, then kind of work it towards more healthy fibrous cereals) It may sound drastic or even a bit cruel, but the kids will eat other things eventually. If he is way thin, buy some insure and mix it in a blender with a scoop or two of ice cream, tastes just like a shake and the ensure has almost everything a body needs to be nutritiously healthy.

My dad once told me that you will never see a dead cat in a tree. Now what does this have to do with anything? My point is, if the cat wants down, it will get down. If your dog gets really hungry, it will eat. (the whole "beggars can't be choosers" philosophy)
But, don't feed it people food. It's unhealthy. Just try different cans of food to see what works. If you're trying dry dog food, add a little water. Maybe it doesn't care for the consistency. Warm it up in the microwave a bit. Dogs won't eat what they can't smell. And if all else fails, take it to the vet. Maybe there's an underlying healthy problem.

Nope, when I got my pup he was a picky too. I added a bit of chicken broth to his food. Make sure he gets plenty of exercise. He'll get hungry. Also, their tummy's are very small, so they really don't eat much as babies. The cool thing, is that most dogs will eat when they are hungry, and stop when they're not. Nutrical is also a great suppliment for a pup that is not getting enough nutrition from a lack of food.

iv had yorkies for 15 years and had the same problems..i wouldnt worry..i have one yorkie left who is nearly 11 years old and there is stuff he cant and wont eat..ped chum, fresh meat of any sort doesnt agree with him so we steer clear..feed him what the breeder has been feeding and if he refuses his meal then withold food till the next meal that usually helps, also try cutting his food down say if he has 4 meals aday start giving him 3 meals, perserverance is the key.i learnt from experience when i got my greyhound that they clock on if they let on they dont like summit, they will hold out for summit yummier and we as pet owners will always give in and give them something different, yorkies have very sensitive digestive systems so lay off the rich food try him on chicken, white fish, scrambled egg and then start introducing teeny weeny dog mixer biscuits but if he seems ok in himself i really really wouldnt worry best of luck and if you need anymore help get in touch via my profile xxxx

He's still very young. Feed him a good quality puppy. I really like Nutro Ultra Puppy food and it is small bites. You could start out with baby rice cereal mixed with goats milk for a couple of weeks than switch to dry puppy food with goats milk then eventually leave off the goats milk.
Hope that works for you.

No, you shouldn't be worried for him, but for you, because he will probably want to eat expensive food...that's gonna cost you a fortune:) But there is a way you can make him eat the food you're buying him- take it in your hand and put it to his mouth. Mine always ate like that, even if he didn't like the food- the only important thing was that it came out of my hand:)

What ever you do DONT feed him people food. Thats what most do when their dog wont eat and thats all the dog will want and will starve itself to get some.

Try a little salmon on top or water to try and get him to eat. Talk to you vet too.
