At first, I was oppose to the idea to send more troops to Iraq, but if we just abandon them it could be devastating to the people of Iraq and their future. I think that if we support what the president is asking for It will have a better outcome for both America & Iraq, and since we are already there, why not finish the job the right way. For the sake of all our men and women in uniform who has sacrifice a lot in that war.

Yes, I support it, between Iraqi forces and US forces I think it will be successful, I think we should have sent more troops 45 to 60K bringing troop levels closer to 200K. I don't support long term deployment of these troops. I think we should give it 6 to 8 months if it is not working draw down the troops to 120 to 140K. 12 months later drop that to 100K. Keep these troop levels for 3 to 5 yrs. Then draw it down to a long term(15+ yrs) 40 to 60K. Rapid withdrawal will put Iraq and our country in danger.
We need to make sure Iraq's security forces can support themselves. They also need to try and win the hearts and minds of the the Iraqi youth. These are the people who will be taking over the country in 10 to 20 years and we will be depending on to allow our troops to come home. Abandoning them now will leave resentment. We freed them but then we abandoned them. Not a good policy.
People need to realize this is bigger than Iraq. It is part of the war on terrorism whether you like it or not. Stop living in the past, start assesing what is going on now in the present. Start looking at what needs to be done to protect the future. Everyone who is opposed to the Iraq war and Bush and the Surge in troop levels, for 4 years I have heard how you are opposed to everything that is happening, I heard very little in regards to what we should do except the easy answer bring our troops home. The people with this solution are the same people that just want to go back to pre 9/11 and put our heads in the sand. What about what happens after we pull out, did you think about that?, what are the consequences of terrorist controlling the middle east and destabilizing that region of the planet?, what will you say when another attack takes place against americans on the home front., what? Will you just mark it up to; "well Bush caused this, it's his fault". No it will be your fault because you did not let the troops get the job done.

Hate to bust your bubble little sheepy but the terrorist tend to be the Iraqi police and army they have no loyalty to the Iraqi govt only to there tribes. So sending more troops is a futile exercise and total waste of lives and money. I am a Democrat and I have served in the Persian gulf during the Iraq/Iran war and during desert storm. I know these people quite well there is nothing we can do but let them slug it out for themselves they will break up into there individual tribal areas and form new countries from them. Iraq is a British invention not an Arab one. So it is no surprise if they dump it for there old way of life.

I do not support the troop surge because Iraq is just turning into another Vietnam. As soon as the United States withdraws, which will probabley be when the Democrats win the next presidential election, all hell is going to break loose between the sunnis and the shiites, basically a civil war. Withdraw now and let them slug it out, which is what's going to happen anyway. Save American lives. I am Canadian, but if I was a U.S. citizen I would be a Democrat. President Bush is at his lowest level of support in his entire presidency, and I can see why.

I feel our government started something and we need to be able to walk away with a clear conscious. It sounds like it is a mess over there and if we need a Troop surge I am for it. Lets get it done, done right and get the hell out. How can we just walk away, imagine all of the deaths of innocent people there would be.
I am a democrat and I am with you.

Why ask? The surge is already underway with over 14,000 already in country and getting training in their big push.
There is too much money on line and elections around the corner for any repub or demo to take a chance to try and stop it. they will play politcal tongue tied BS games until it is well under way.
This occupation and takeover of a country has gone way past not supporting it and no matter what the Amerian people say or do we are gong to kill more Iraquis so that they will stop killing each other but especailly us.
We have to get those pipelines up and running for our Alies of convenience to begin to see some reward for supporting us.
We have to see to it that we can completley destroy Iran if they do not hurry up and get rid of their leaders and don't want some Iraqui running around with an Ak scaring the new embassy staff.
Who gives a damn about how the Iraquis military does in killing fellow countrymen other than for appearance sakes, as they will be targeting those the US says Kill!
If too many Iraquis die in collatreral damage we can always say the Iraquis did it.
Iraquis defend themselves after we tore the hell out of their country, tore apart every institution of civil infrastructure killed and drove out of coutnry anyone who had nerve enough to complain about US actions.
Come now what planet did you beam down from?
The only real Iraqui leader left in country is Sadr and unless he bows down to US he will soon be laid to rest.

This whole issue is being defined in the way the question is being asked. It conveniently leaves out (ignores) the fact we should have had this as a game plan from the get-go...IN AFGHANISTAN. If one is to ensure a budding democracy, then subsequent security following the complete downfall of the Taliban should have been at the fore-front of awareness. As a result, Afganistan is going head to head with the action in Iraq, and there is no end in sight there either. It's become a free-for-all in both places. It is common knowledge that the war in Iraq was promoted with deception. Yeah, Saddam was a bad guy, but the one that was responsible for 9-11 is still on the lam, and now we have two out of control fires: one we could have put out early on, and the other caused by W. At some point, one has to come to the conclusion that we are sacrificing brave men and women in a poorly planned war, not unlike the last scene in Gallipoli.

If the temporarily troop surge does help getting our troop back safe and sooner, then i supports it.
But the question is whether the troop surge will help! As some one said in the news, it doesn't do much help ! Other than, costing more money per day for us. And giving some soldiers rest.
It does not solve the fundamental problem of what the hell we are going to do. And what is the actually working plans.
Throwing more money and bodies does harm when they have no plans that actually works.
I am neither republican nor democrates. I am just someone who hate to see money get throw away and young men get crippled and killed.
At the time like this, I really opt to see our president Bush and his republican allies to send their sons and daughters/ nephews to iraq to help fight the "terrorisms" they created.

If Bush's plan hasn't worked in the past four years, why will putting more people in harm's way solve anything. The Iraqi people need to stand up and take responsibility for their own country. Most of the Iraqi soldiers (I use that term lightly) wear civilian clothes under their uniforms in case the **** hits the fan they can blend into a crowd easier. I am here, trust me, more troops will not help.

If the commanders on the ground say they need more troops, which is what they have said, then we should do it and stop listening to politicians on both sides of the aisle who are only out to save their own political hides. Regardless of party, we're Americans and we must do everything we can to support our troops and win and this should be true whether you supported the war at the beginning or not. Let's boot the politicians out of the process!
