Melatonin is the stuff that makes your skin darker, or in its absence, lighter. So far, the jury is out as to whether or not it is what does or does not lead to skin wrinkles or even skin cancer. What IS known is that the stuff does help protect, to a certain amount, your skin from sun damage. There is no known side effects to taking Melatonin for people with heart problems or diabetes. Melatonin supplements will only give you a darker skin tone.

Melatonin is a naturally occuring substance that your body produces. The level of melatonin in your body increases in the evening and falls in the morning, so it is thought that it induces sleep naturally. SInce this is in your body anyway, low doses should be harmless to anyone, but its efficacy is questionable. Personally, I have found that 4 mg helps me fall asleep faster, particularly if I am jet-lagged . But I only use it when I fail to fall asleep naturally.
