At least you took the time to actually ASK what an atheist is instead of assuming you knew. For that, I commend you.
Atheists are not Christian by any standard... atheists are people who do not believe in any god(s). That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't worship Satan (we don't even believe in Satan), we don't practice magic (...well, I do, because I'm a Red Mage. It's how I get EXP. Teehee.), and we're not evil, immoral people.
It's more of a description than it is a philosophy.
I don't believe in any gods, therefore I'm atheist.
