why don't people think before they speak?

Sometimes I swear I think it's simply because we like the sound of our own voices... pitiful, but true!

Because they don't consider other people's feelings. I have a female relative like this. She calls it being 'honest' but 'honestly' it's just bad manners in my book. She's hurt our feeling so many times, I'm surprised when she doesn't do it now and again! Maybe these people were spoiled a lot as kids and weren't taught that it's best to be polite and considerate to others, so this means thinking of how you're going to say something first. It doesn't mean you have to tell lies (although white lies are essential sometimes) but that there is a way to say something nicely. "What made you buy that awful jumper" for example could with a little forethought have been "Oh, new jumper? Mmm, not bad, but I prefer you in blue" and so on.

a) Too eager to help
b) Indifferent and want you to hear their opinion regardless
c) Deliberately trying to hurt/wound/anger
d) Complete ignorance and arrogance
e) Natural abrupt nature, with little thought to consequences

Because they don't think twice of what they're going to say before they say it. Since the damage has been done, they're going to have to deal with the consequences.
