my dobermann puppy has a curved spine and i have never heard or seen this before has anyone else or know off a dog with this problem?

I have a chihuahua that was born with a slightly humped back and a crooked tail due to the large size of the litter of pups(there were 6 which is large for a chihuahua). She is fine. Just turned 5. She is beautiful, only weighs 3 lb, and everyone that meets her falls in klove with her, despite the fact that she isn't perfect.

I've seen this before, and it depends on the curvature of the spine. If it is like a cat, then he will be okay, but will have health problems later on. If it is severe, and he has trouble walking and seems to be in a lot of pain, you may need to consider putting him down. It's a difficult choice, but I saw this when I worked in a shelter and many times with severe curvature it will not be a quality life for the dog. Good luck.

I would think it would depend a lot upon the severity of the curve - make an appointment to see your vet and explain your concerns and ask them all these sorts of questions, include what sort of restricitons on physical exercise the puppy will have, what can be done to make it more comfortable etc.

Are you referring to Roach Backed? some dogs have a spine that curves up kinda like a cat that's been scared. If that's what you mean then yes, they do live but are very likely to develop arthritis early in life.

My mom's daushound had this and he lived a few years until he got cancer. Your puppy will be fine just play with it, love it, and have fun! Good Luck!
