No. If you loved your son (or whatever relation the kid is to you), you would get them a miniDV camera. People for some reason think that kids are incapable of thinking thoughts, much less handling a (oh my god its so expensive!) $300 camera. Well that's retarded. If the kid likes making movies, get him a decent camera, not a piece of **** that he'll have to throw away in a couple of years. But if he doesnt like making movies and just wants to record parties and stuff like that, oh yeah, go ahead and get like a $70 camera. He wont even know the difference, and he'll be like "Wow! A $70 camera! That's so expensive mom! I love you forever!" (And that wasnt meant to be sarcastic). So thats my take. I'm done. Hope this helped! BTW, I'm a kid as well, in case you couldn't tell already.

No. I'd give them an 11 year old video camera though. lol
Seriously, there are better digital video cameras for kids. Check Aiptek products. They're inexpensive ($30-$200) and fun for kids.

Yes! I wish I had a camcorder when I was younger. I think supervision is key until they prove responsible.
I think you can really help your 11 year old. Don't just give the camera to him/her, but work with them and show them the cool things it can do, how to keep it steady, creative angles to shoot from, etc.
It's kind of like feeding them fish or teaching them to fish. Help him/her grow to their full potential. Give them the resources and watch what they'll make!

No, What on earth for?
Well possibly if there was some valid reason why he/she would need one. Like if there was some hobby that he/she participated in and they often went to see that type of event, they may want to document it for refernce purposes?
Maybe he/she will be the next big film maker?
