oh yes they do. I think it´s a case of yourself setting the rules and keeping to them, I once saw a programe about a little girl 5 or 6,years old , she would´t let her mum do anything not even speak on the phone , she had to sleep with her mum , she even wanted what was on her mum´s plate , even she had her own food, then they ask for help a super nanny, this lady stayed and watched every thing the little girl did , helped her mum to show her the right way how to handle her , it took time , but they made a little chart , as to what the little girl had to do every day on her own and every time she did the thing right she good put a little colored star on her chart, she had sleep on her own put her toy´s away on her own , her mum good leave the house go shopping or go have her hair cut & leave the girl with the grandparents , & even she used to hate them before, all the things that little girls should do at this age. . because her mum in the past had let her get her own way she had become the boss in the house & nobody good do anything unless she liked it, have fits and tantrums , screem the house down I want I want, but by the time the nanny had to leave , you would´t think it was the same little girl, so it´s all a matter of setting rules and keeping to them.Maybe your problem is not as bad as that little girl ,but I have children & they all go through this some worse than others . Hope I have help a little,

Kids have their ups and downs all through their lives from being babies right through to their teenage years so I would say what your experiencing with your daughter is normal. However I understand that you will want to try and resolve this behaviour and so I have a few suggestions that you could try, first is to try and get your daughter into some kind of routine for bedtime, so you could bath her at the same time each night then maybe have 30mins playtime or tele time before settling her down for sleepy time with a nice cuddle and story together. another thing is to make up a reward chart for her, kids adore praise and it really boosts their confidence. When things get really tough dont shout or smack her just say in a firm voice ' right that is naughty you have made made mummy very sad now so go and have time out' then taker her by the hand and take her to sit on the sofa or another place of your choice and leave her there until she calms down and comes to say sorry. If she moves from the sofa for example and she is still being naughty then simply take her back there and keep doing that until it has the desired effect, It will take time and patience but its does work provided your consistant with doing it. When she has calmed down and says sorry always give her a cuddle and tell her that you love her then go and carry on doing whatever you were doing before she started mis-behaving. I hope some of this advice helps. good luck

Yes,It Is Prefectally Normal. They Are Starting To Realize They Are Getting Older And They Want To See Friends And Wear Different Clothes When You Say No They Obviously Are Getting Mad This usually happens from ages 5-7 Then They Just Grow out Of It.

Children can be troublesome at any age. Starting school which they do at five is one of the first times that children start to assert some independence, that can be hard and confusing for both parent and child. Difficult to say why your daughter is becoming a handful as you put it but I would bet that changes are happening in her life or yours.

I tell ya, kids CAN turn troublesome at any age. Stay firm. Don't have a ' little princess ' that runs YOU instead of the other way around. Biggest problem I see these days is parents being far too lenient on their kids. They end up being brats that no one wants around. Don't be the mother that everyone wishes wouldn't come over with their little 'Angel'.

I always thought girls get better once they reach 5. All of mine so far have been very sweet between 5-7. I have a 10 year old who turned into a terror somewhere around mid 8-9. With a lot of time, and many red bottoms, we've got our little angel back. Don't be afraid to take the pants down, and spank the bottom.
Email me if you wish to vent, I've been there, lol.

Good Luck

Kids could get 'troublesome' at any age.. Some start young, some start old, some are seldom troublesome, and some are frequently troublesome at any age...

I was troublesome all the time.. ;)

think about what your 5 year old has learned so far in her life... communication, biological actions, pleasure, pain, love, fear, just to name a few. each day is an adventure for her, exploring the boundaries of her world. her "troublesome behavior" could be from the type of stimulation she is receiving. be an observant mom, sometimes cause is an effect.

it is hard to generalize an age group as they are individuals and act individually.

She is just testing the waters, to see how deep she can get before she drowns. My daughter is 6 and we went through this phase when she was 4/5. Ever once in a while she acts up, but she know where the line is and is very cautious on crossing it. Just lay out the rules and stick to them.
