I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this statement:
"Do you not go on a killing spree only because god told you not to .... Or do you not do it because you think it's wrong to randomly kill other people?"
[Yes, I realize that I combined two different statements of yours into one for the purpose of argument, and it is not exactly what you said, but humor me for a moment]
God would not have forbidden murder, or anything else that he happens to forbid for that mater, if it were not inherently wrong to begin with. So, your two statements seem redundant in that anything that God calls a sin MUST of necessity be something that is inherently wrong. God is not a jerk who is trying to ruin our fun; he is trying to protect us from our own evil side.
Would I be a murder if I were not a Christian? Probably not, since murder brings bad consequences if you are caught, but I might have been a thief, a liar, or a con-man of some sort if I was not taught that God hates liars way back in Sunday School (hey, we all have our personal demons to fight). Or I might have become an alcoholic (or drug addict) like my grandfather if I wasn't taught that intoxication was a sin.

Whether or not someone can murder another person is a moral question. Generally Christians do not believe it is ok to murder because of biblical reasons, it stems back to Cain and Abel. Now regardless of whether I am a christan or not I would think murdering is wrong. You are taking another life. It is wrong in almost all circumstances, except if you are protecting yourself because the person is going to kill you. I am a Christian but even if I weren't I would still think murdering is wrong.

The ten commandments tell us to not murder. It is a pretty common law among civilizations to not murder each other because God has given people a conscience to curb our sinful inclination.
Our conscience has rules inscribed in them as told in Romans 2. So even a non-believer's conscience should guide him away from murdering others. If a person thought that murder was a good thing then they have crushed their conscience and are in need of serious help even from the view of the secular world.
Romans 2:14+15
14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

Well, historically speaking... God did command the slaughterings of othe tribes or people from other 'nations'. Yet, the Ten Commandments say... Thou shall not kill. Okay... let me explain the best way I possible can b/c I'm not an expert.
God desires His people to be of a clean hearts, of righteous thoughts, and holy ways. Yet, He is also a God of justice and vengeance. He will always promote His perfect will and promote good and if that means, kill the heathens... so be it.
I'm sorry if some of you get offended for me speaking it this way but it's the only way I can get others to understand & I hope I didn't misinterpret Him

Read your history. Christians are the most bloodthirsty sect that the world has ever seen; until the Nazis and Communists came along, Christians had a near-monopoly on genocide, with something over 250,000 killed in crusades, the Inquisition, auto-da-fe, witchcraft, and other abominations. Most of this ended after the Thirty Years War, but it wasn't really over until the end of the Inquisition about 1820.

I'm a Christian. I don't murder others because:
1. God commanded His people to NOT murder.
2. It's against the law. (obviously)
3. I am revolted by the thought of ending someone else's life. I couldn't possibly do it. The very idea of doing away with another human being in cold blood is repugnant to me.
Let me clarify...if someone attempted to harm one of my children and it was in my power to stop them by using deadly force, you better believe I wouldn't hesitate to blow their brains out. I don't consider that murder, it's self-defense.
To answer your question, I have NEVER thought murder was ever a good thing...before or after salvation

I have wondered this very same thing; especially when someone answers a question or poses one with 'of course you need god for morals, otherwise we'd all be murderers, rapists and thieves' or something along those lines as main argument.
There is something underneath that that is genuinely worrying and says something about the 'deep psyche' behind that person.

Being a christian no more means to memorize and follow a book as a biologist is supposed to memorize every latin species name.Every human is a creation- a child of God- and has a divine spark in him/her. Whether you think we're rotten -'fallen'-in essence, or basically good with refining to do, still everyone is aware of right and wrong-even if their culture says it's ok to rape-just ask the victims why they cry...To be a christian is to love as Christ loved. That's it.

I never killed anyone, even before I became a Christian. I think that anyone, of any faith or no faith, that murders has something wrong with them. I feel that normal people would only kill if they or someone around them was in physical danger of being killed.
May God Bless you.
