Volkswagens have a tendency to eat through brake pads and they have very soft rotors...But sounds like you just have dirt stuck in the pads... If it is unbearable take the pads off and get some course sand paper and with a swirling motion smooth out your pad before the sand or rock stuck in your pad makes a rut in your rotor..

Your brake pads are worn down to the backing and that is what is rubbing on your disc, Get it booked in at a garage asap and you might just get away with buying a set of brake pads rather than the discs as well

It's either your brake pads have worn down to the point of metal contacting your discs or a stone could have got between disc and pad. If its a stone - dont worry, it'll work loose or break up in a few days, if its the pads then you'll wreck your discs really quickly, get them checked out ASAP.

Car talk is a good site.

It might be real serious as the brake pads are going or it could like Misha above says. Anyway, brakes are important. Get it looked at.

If you spend a couple extra $100 to replace your pads when the just needed to be cleaned, at least you lived.:)

brake pads need replacing otherwise you will no longer stop. Period. Hopefully too much damage hasn't already happened from the metal to metal contact that is happening right now otherwise they have to repair the rotors and drums.

You might want to have your car taken in and have your CV Joints (also known as half-shafts) inspected. If your car is front wheel drive, the CV is notorious for going out and making all sorts of noises. Regards, Z

If you have any problem with your brakes, it's only common sense to them them sorted straightaway.

A child could run out in front of you.

There's enough places who will sort your brakes out, while you wait.
