I have had my nostril pierced for nearly three years. However, after an initial 3 months, I haven’t ever removed my piercing (a screw design). It’s never really bothered me… I was just curious if it is something I should take out occasionally? Is there any harm in leaving it in? While I like it now, I don’t want to wake up in 5 years with a nasty scare of sorts.

Also, as it doesn’t pose problems, I never do any special treatments. Should I be?

Well, I have Had my nose pieced and a couple other piercings also. It is natural for them to bug you sometime. Removing them is good especially for a good cleaning. I clean my nose with lavender oil and water, sometimes at night put a little antibiotic ointment on it to prevent infection. Since you wash your face soap may build up and it might get really gross or cause irritation or even infection. Since you have had your piecing for 3 years it should be pretty low maintenance for you. Don't worry. Just take it out once in a while to clean and disinfect the jewelry with alcohol.

I had both nostrils done at once, but had to remove them for a job interview. Nose piercings are easier to clean with hoops, but they all should be cleaned daily to prevent infection (hoops can stay in while cleaning, just slide through hole back and forth). Both of the holes closed up and I have two little dips where the holes were, but no one can notice unless I point them out.

No harm in leaving it in and if you do take it out, as long as you put it back in, it won't close up. Taking in out won't cause any bad scar to form unless you just pull it out and tear open your nostril.

I take my nostril jewelry out and clean the jewelry every once in a while, but you don't have to.

I wouldnt think you really would HAVE to take it out.... altho its kinda hard to belive that you havent lol... as long as it doesnt bother you, and you dont see any skin building up around the stud u know? Try taking it out once in a while just for a good cleaning....
