Try to do things yourself. When my husband and I got married two years ago we did are own flower arrangements, which will save you hundreds of $$$$. Also I mad the baskets of gifts that we handed out...little wicker baskets filled with several healthy and relaxing items to help them...we included homemade massage bars (really cheap and easy to make) with little reflexology charts, hemp seed granola with a note explaining it's benefits and recipies for use also included were some scented candles and ideas for de stressing their life. For children attending we had a fun table with gmes and crafts for them to play with plus a candy bowl loaded with gummy aquatc animals to look like a fish bowl. I made my own dress but I understand that it is not something that most women would do I also hand made our invitations....in the end we had lovely wedding out of state (Bridalveil Falls, Yosimite National Park) and did it all for under $2500, obviously not including the honeymoon.
Hope that this helps....
Remember to do what you want and not to be pushed into something, around the time of the wedding people often forget that the day is about you and your wishes. Best Wishes.

An afternoon tea reception... and a small intimate guest list..
I live in a resort town in the Rocky Mountains... there is nothing in this town for cheap.... so we have to try and cut costs everywhere we can. We have a guest list of 50 people... and are serving an afternoon tea which averages $17 per person... That's $850 for food... throw on another couple hundred for drinks (mind you it's tea.. and you'd think there's a minimal cost for heating up water and throwing in some leaves) and voila.. there is a very tasteful reception.
and it might sound scary.. but order your dress off of ebay... from china.... just make sure you ahve a good seamstress take youre measurements first... and you'll easily save $500 on the dress of your dreams...

No hassle, ELOPE that's what I told my son. There are so many problems coming up that are going to ruin the entire thing for this lovely couple who are paying their own way. She is 30, he is 36. First time marriage for both. Been together 5 yrs.already. No I am not the problem. I am just going along with whatever they choose. It is their day.
Do get married by a Godly Pastor, that is what will be sweet to remember when you have been married 54 yrs. like me and my precious husband. He is the best.
Good luck & God Bless

My idea was for a simple, inexpensive wedding too. To me there is nothing simple about it. There are so many decisions to make and it is so stressful. Either put the people closest to you in charge of some things or elope.

Evening weddings are classy & elegant, but very inexpensive. You set your wedding time for after dinner and only have to serve dessert-type foods. Some cake, some cookies, tea & coffee. Use the nighttime to your advantage and decorate with floating candles for the centerpieces and other candles all around. It will be lovely.
Congratulations.

The courthouse, a suit and tie, a nice dress and the local hotel. To keep this chic, bring flowers and invite a few family/friends.

OK, the more you do yourself, the less money you'll wind up spending. Don't feel obligated to feed guests, cake and punch will do nicely. I don't know how many people you're inviting, but if you can have a reception at someone's home, it's definitely going to save you some money on renting a place. It will be some work, so you'll have to watch your stress level. Remember my mantra...KEEP IT SIMPLE SILLY!!

Garden wedding are nice - rent a tent or canopy just in case of rain. Talk to a local fire hall or rec center about giving a donation for the rental of chairs.

Stick with a classic small church wedding. Or find a place near your hometown outside. My cousin did hers at the same place she had one of her proms. It was a small area, relatively cheap, and just decorated with flowers. My brother did his in a very small church near a lake. Absolutely gorgeous. Yet again, just decorated with flowers. Both receptions were barely decorated except for what the places came with!
