Nicotine causes the brain to release dopamine as does eating and sex. So after you eat and you get that feeling of happiness and contentment from the dopamine release you crave more when you are a tobacco user to extend the "high".

I don't know if it's a chemical thing, but when I used to smoke, I liked a cigarette after a meal to settle my stomach. Maybe because it relaxes you and that helps you digest food? When I was in the Army, and nasty Army food, sometimes a cigarette was the only thing that would make my stomach feel better. I haven't smoked for 15 years but I still sometimes crave a smoke after a big, heavy meal.

I only crave a cigarette after eating when I'm REALLY full. It seems to help move the digestive process along... though, I'm not sure that is necessarily true. But, I always feel less full after.

Some people - those who "associate" food with smoking - do have this problem. Others associate alcoholic drinking with smoking. Still others associate smoking with specific places, times of day, and so on.

None of these have much to do with the "physical" addiction related to smoking.

Best bet is to "break the association". Do not smoke 30 minutes before or after eating, as an example.

Goats have a reputation for eating weird stuff like cloth or paper, so it doesn't surprise me that they like to eat tobacco. I guess eating it is better than smoking it :-)
