I live in Solano county, CA and am wondering which places you would recommend to have a kittens vaccinations, and dewormer done. The kittens I have just got, do not have fleas, or ear mites. The dewormer is just a precaution.

I have heard of Yolano Vet. They travel around my county and do mobile service. Usually in a parking lot somewhere. I am just trying to find out if there is a place sooner than next month coming to Vacaville, and if they are cheaper than yolano

It depends on what vaccines you are getting for your cat. The basic vaccines are the FVRCP vaccines (they are like the distemper/parvo shots for dogs) The FVRCP stands for Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis Chlamydia Panleukopenia. This vaccine is the minimum you need (next to rabies) and they should be given at 8-12-16 weeks of age (needs three shots to be fully vaccinated.

Feline leukemia is also a good vaccine but your kitten needs to be tested first to make sure it doesnt already have it. They can get it from their mothers (born with it) or from other stray cats. I would also recommend this vaccine too. It can be given at 8-10 weeks. Here is a site about the feline leukemia. (needs two shots to be fully vaccinated)

Another vaccine that is sometimes given is FIV vaccine. It is the Feline Immunodeficency Virus (sp) and it is the cat version of HIV. In order to vaccinate for this you have to have your cat tested first. Because you need to know that you cat was negative first. Once they are vaccinated the test reads a false positive afterwards because the test looks for antibodies against the disease. Once they are vaccinated they build anitbodies for it which is why they show up positive. There is a test to see if the postive is a false or true positive but it is very expensive and really only needs to be done if there are any questions to the results (which is why you need to know that the positive is from the vaccine). They can be tested at 9 weeks that way the antibodies that they may get from having a mother that was vaccinated drop to a point where they wont interfere with the test. They can be vaccinated for it at 12-16-20 weeks. (needs three shots to be fully vaccinated)

Another vaccine that is available is FIP. Feline infectious Peritonitis. Here is a site about it. http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fip.html
This intral nasal vaccine can be given at 16 & 20 weeks olds (needs two shots to be fully vaccinated)

The final shot that is a requirement is the Rabies which is given at 16 weeks.

Also there is a bordetella vaccine that protects them from kennel cough. It is kind of like our flu vaccine and protects them from picking up kennel cough if they go to a kennel for boarding or go to the groomer.

The bare minimum you should do for your cat is FVRCP, Rabies, and most likely Feline leukemia. The other three are optional but very good to use. All of my cats have been vaccinated for all of them.

I dont know where to find cheap vets or vaccines there but you should definetly use a vet or buy the vaccines from a vet so you know they have been properly stored and wont be damaged or unusable. Good luck and I hope this gives you an idea about the different cat vaccines. sorry so long

If you go to any co-op, you can by the vaccination and give shot yourself. $6 ~ $10 per shot. Direction is on the label also co-op person have experience, too. (You know, many ranchers shot their horses, cows, dogs themselves!)
Dewormer - you can buy in the Walmart or any pet shop. I like Safeguard brand, is powdered so harder to feed than syrup style but kills more worm than other kinds.

I would be cautios of traveling vehicles in parking lots giving my pets shots....But thats me and here in NH they don't do that, as far as age i do believe it is90 days 3 months old no less for there first shots. Then they will tell you when too get the next ones.
