in the first place, in most cases. Also, why do charities who give aid to places such as India & Africa not include birth control so that they won't keep on having babies who starve to death?

in the name of "fetus rights" busybody Fundies seek control over women. they long for the good ol' days when women knew their place to be in the kitchen and under a man's foot. Fundies don't really care about undeveloped "babies" because if they did they'd be the most strident voices raised for protecting the Earth's Eco systems. instead they gleefully await the "end times" and the destruction of the the Earth which would include the deaths of ALL them little babies they claim to care so much about.
you might notice that it's often the Fundies that complain the loudest about their tax dollars supporting Welfare and social programs. apparently once a baby is out of the womb and born into abject poverty the importance of the baby to a Fundy drops to the value of zero.

control is what Fundies want. plain and simple.

I am definitely pro-life in the case of abortions. As for birth control, it is a useful aid in preventing pregnancies. It was originally designed for married couples in order that they would not have so many children and like many substances created for mans benefit; it has been abused for inappropriate behavour. In the christian world sex is not considered a bad thing and is considered a creation of God. It is to be enjoyed between a husband and wife. It is a shame that such a beautiful moment has been denegrated into something dirty. As for birth control for unmarried people; why not try abstinence? If not, why not try taking responsibility for those actions and decisions? It is not the unborn child's fault that someone made a decision to take a chance of getting pregant. The idea of sending birth control to other countries is an idea to be considered. But, we have to realize that the people of those countries have the same rights to make their own decisions as we do. It could be offered, but not forced. Any christian charity would probably give birth control to married couples, but not to anyone unmarried. Your may not like that idea, but it is the charities option to set their own rules. You just do not have contribute to any of them. Why not take the initiative and start one of your own and provide these materials to the people you think need it so much? It can be done. Just take the first step. Please try to not bunch all pro-choice people in the same basket. Just like everyone else, we have different ideas and it is not fair to judge us all the same.

Pro-life people have a different definition of when someone is pregnant than the medical community does. To pro-life people pregnancy begins at conception. To the majority of the medical community pregnancy begins when a fertilized egg successfully implants in the uterus. This is because implantation fails many times just naturally and the fertilized egg is expelled. The low dose contraceptive pills can sometimes allow ovulation to occur which then might be fertilized. Because the effects the pill has on the uterine lining and hormones of a woman's cycle it can then sometimes prevent this fertilize egg from implanting. To pro-lifers this is an abortion.

I also think their opposition to birth control is based on their belief that sexual intercourse outside marriage is a sin. They feel access to contraceptive allows people to sin without paying a "price". To some of them if you had premarital sex you deserve whatever unhappy consequence might arise from it.

Interesting question. It is true that Catholics believe in the sovereignty of God to choose when a person will have a baby. But, all other churches are ok with birth control and think it is foolish to not plan wisely when you have a child. It is a fault of Christianity up to this point that they do not talk more about sex. There are a few awesome books that describe sex and how to have fun doing it out now by Christian authors. So today I would say that actually most churches encourage birth control. Now, they do discourage pre-marital sex. We should not confuse their discouragement of pre-marital sex with discouragement of birth control.

I'm only against birth control that allows fertilization, such as the pill or certain hormone implants.

Other hormone implants, which completely stop a woman from ovulating, or the barrier method (condoms etc...) are perfectly morally legitimate. They do not allow the beginning of life.

-------

Proud2Obey: My sister has the same problem -- she must be on the pill to prevent her from bleeding out and dying. It is not being used as contraception. However, I consider her a murderer that she is still sexually active knowing that her husband and her are possibly fertilizing eggs and creating human life they know will be washed out of her in a few days.

If you're on the pill for legitimate reasons, abstinence or barrier methods are called for.

---------------

And yet again I find it terribly sad how many people view this as a religious question and not a moral question.

I am a Born Again Baptist Christian and I am on the pill for medical reasons. If you use the Pill for proper reasons and not just to prevent a pregnacy then I don't see any problem with it. It's either bleed to death without the pill or take the pill and get the bleeding to stop.

I can give you the Catholic Answer, We believe that life starts from conception not birth. We do not believe in birth control because one of the responsibilities of marriage is the possibility of children, which is one of the reasons why you should not have sex until married, if your not ready for kids DONT HAVE SEX! My point being, birth control prevents life! we are against anything that prevents life or causes death your sexuality is a gift and it is to be enjoyed unlike the fool who answered you earlier that said Christians dont believe in enjoying sex, he is 100% WRONG ! Its a gift of married life! To deny God the opportunity to make life because of your own will and unwillingness to have children is wrong. How ever if a married couple is not ready for a child they can practice Natural Family Planning and abstain from sex during female ovulation, it is 90% effective. Bottom line is Kids come from sex everyone knows it If your adult enough to make one you should be adult enough to take care of it, Unfortunately in our society this is not true

because the predominant belief in Christianity is that s e x is only for procreation...not enjoyment...men and women should only have s e x if they are planning to bring a child into the world...however, priests can fondle all the little boys they can get their hands on and evangelical church leaders are free to snort meth and diddle gay male massuses...

The vast majority of children being killed through abortion are conceived out of wedlock. I don't oppose contraception out of wedlock. If one insists on having sex out of wedlock, contraception is certainly advisable.
