You should be sure these are blackheads. Children's pores are kind of small to be collecting stuff that would create blackheads.
I would think that any of the products adults use would be too severe for a child's skin.
Call your pediatrician, maybe this is a common thing that is easily cleared up.

Wash his face with a mild cleanser at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, try Neutrogena cream cleanser for acne. Also, I'd use a toner. In most cases, blackheads are caused from not washing your face enough and it being dirty and having dirt/oil sitting.

Leave them alone (no picking). You may try a slightly more adult soap on the affected area, it may help break up the oil that is creating the blackhead.
