Newark is a big hub for Continental Airlines and Philadelphia is a big hub for USAirways, and both airlines fly to Madrid nonstop from those respective airports. In general nonstop flights are cheaper (not to mention more convenient, obviously). But I have always found the cheapest flights by booking directly through the airline so just shop around

Right now, it's at $441 roundtrip on Continental from Philadelphia, via Newark, all taxes and fees included. This includes train from Philly to Newark airport and back, and is actually cheaper than if you just started out from Newark.

I lived in Spain for 4 years...and flew throughout Europe from there and additionally returned to usa. IBERIA airways is who I constantly flew with. they are low priced, effective, and a great employer.

I would check US Airways first, since Philly is their hub. Also check sidestep.com, which searches lots of different sites (and airlines) in just one search.
