Maybe he is bipolar.......my cat doesnt like to be bothered much and never really has....she has always been a part inside part outside cat and she fends for herself....I fill her bowls and let her in and out and she was content with that.......lately she has been really wanting attention too......she is almost 6 and she still plays like a kitten now and then. My cat hates having other cats in the house so I cant have any others. She gets pissed off and goes out and doesnt come inside accept to eat. So cats are strange animals i will never understand them. Gotta love em though.....I guess all you can do is accept that your cat might be happier now for some reason......good luck!

If you haven't known him since he was a kitten, he might have just finally gotten comfortable around people. Maybe someone mistreated him and that finally wore off. Or, maybe he doesn't feel good. It is hard to know when a cat is sick, but the first thing you will notice is a personality change, even one that makes him seem friendlier. When my cat got sick he wouldn't leave me alone. When I slept he would lay right on my head and wouldn't get off. I just didn't know he didn't feel well until too late. You might just take him to the vet and get his temperature taken and make sure everything else is normal. Also, watch carefully to make sure that he is still grooming himself normally, that he is eating and drinking normally. A cat that is ill is a master at masking the illness, but these are the first signs something might be wrong. If not, enjoy your friendly kitty.

As cats....or really any social beings.....age, their personality will sometimes change. I have a cat that for the first two years of his life, he tried to bite anyone who touched him and now that he's about 4 or 5, he loves everyone....no matter who they are. There's really no explanation, and personally, i wouldn't question it too much. As long as he's healthy, then I'd say that it's nothing to worry about.

My youngest cat was the same. He had been abandoned and was starving when he was taken to the animal shelter by a kind trucker who found him in a rest stop washroom, in a box. My son saw him and adopted him because he was just skin and bones and he was sure that no one would want him. My son called him Ripley. Ripley behaved like your cat, and took several months to "feel safe" with us, but now he's an "attention hog", demanding more attention than our other cat. He's always there to watch what we are doing and getting "involved" with whatever we are involved with. It seems that he wants to remind us that "he is here and he belongs", and that he is thankful that we saved him.
So just welcome the attention; he loves you: love him!

Cat's mellow with age and even though they may start out one way personality wise, many change perspectives after a few years. It isn't something to be worried about. He is just getting older.

your cat feels comfortable with you. He trusts you, he is in a happy well surrounded envionment. Next he might lay on his back with his belly up and feet in the air and let people pet his stomach, then you will know he is really comfortable and loves you and knows he is loved. Good job!
