Because usually the kid/s have done something so horrific that it's the only thing that will come out of our mouths. Like the time my brother @ 5 years old jumped off the roof of the house. Mom stammered and sputtered and finally managed to say "DO YOU WANT TO WAKE UP DEAD?? Then she proceded to whip his BEEEEhind big time..

I believe it because the kids are making alot of loud noises that it could possibly wake up the dead.
